Top 10 Goals for 2012

April 15, 2012

The empirical evidence for the efficacy of goal-setting and goal-documenting is widely-known and undisputed.  Accordingly, although we are 3.5 months into the year, I have the desire to formally document my fitness-related goals, and what better place than this blog.

I’ll provide occasional updates and/or note the accomplishment of each goal.

Goals are for calendar 2012 unless otherwise noted:

  1. Stay “sober from sugar” (see this post) and eat healthy in general
  2. Bike the full Prairie Spirit Trail; stay overnight in Iola; bike back the next day (by June 30th)
  3. Bike the full Katy Trail (by November 30th)
  4. Participate in at least 3 organized group cycling events by December 31st
  5. Participate in at least 3 “un-organized” (i.e. informal) group cycling events by December 31st
  6. Participate in at least 3 more 5k walk/run events by December 31st – run at least 75% of at least one of them
  7. Lift weights an average of at least once weekly for the year
  8. Lose 35 pounds from current weight by December 31st
  9. Identify at least one major cycling goal for next year (e.g. RAGBRAI, Cowboy Trail, cycle across a state, etc)
  10. This year I walked the 5k at Rock the Parkway; return next year to run (or mostly-run/walk) the half marathon

Obviously, some of these goals will be tougher to accomplish than others.  But, I’ve found lately that my specific goals for the PST and Katy have helped me keep focused on my fitness; and I’m “crystallizing” the new ones to help in the same way.
